電影 六福客栈 The Inn of the Sixth Happiness 1958

Gladys May Aylward (1902 – 1970)出生于英国一个贫寒家庭,基督徒,中文名艾伟德。十几岁开始做家佣。在做家佣期间,她要去中国献身传教工作的愿望越发清晰、强烈起来。1930年,28岁时,她以自己仅有的几十个英镑为路费,只身从英国经由陆路来到了中国山西。在山西阳城,她与老传教士Jeannie Lawson一起努力,开办了一家客栈,并将其取名为“八福客栈”(The Inn of Eight Happinesses)。

The Inn of the Sixth Happiness。“八福客栈”中的“八福”意为“八个福分”,而The Inn of the Sixth Happiness 中的sixth是序数词,意即“第六”。

Gladys May Aylward (1902 – 1970) was born into a poor British family and Christian Chinese Avide. Started working as a domestic helper in his teens. While working as a domestic servant, her desire to go to China to dedicate herself to missionary work became clearer and stronger. In 1930, at the age of 28, she traveled from England to Shanxi, China, by land with only a few dozen pounds she had. In Yangcheng, Shanxi, she worked with the old missionary Jeannie Lawson to open an inn and named it The Inn of Eight Happinesses. The "beatitudes" are taken from biblical verses.

At the age of 34, Avid became a citizen of the Republic of China. At the age of 47, she returned to England. At the age of 56, she came to China again but eventually settled in Taiwan, where she died at the age of 68.

The novel The Small Woman, written by Royal Aviator and author Alan Burgess, published in 1957, is a biographical work by Avide.

The novel's English title is The Small Woman. In terms of English semantics alone, small woman means "short woman". Indeed, Avid is only about 1.5 meters tall. However, in the book the reader can see that the protagonist is a great woman. Thus, "small" contrasts with the great greatness of Avide.

The title of the book Chinese translated as "Little Women".

The film "Luk Fook Inn", based on "Little Women", premiered in 1958. The original author of "Little Women" participated in the adaptation of the film.

The English title of "Luk Fook Inn" is The Inn of the Sixth Happiness. The "Eight Beatitudes" in "Eight Beatitudes" means "eight blessings", and the sixth in The Inn of the Sixth Happiness is an ordinal word meaning "sixth". Thus, the Sixth Happiness originally meant "the sixth beatitude", not "six blessings".

In this film, after Mrs. Lawson nails the plaque of "Liufu Zhan", Renai ("Renai" is the heroine in the film, and Avid is her prototype) says: "In China, everyone wishes you five kinds of happiness." What is the sixth type of happiness? Mrs. Lawson responded, "Then you'll have to find out for yourself." Everyone decides in their heart what the sixth happiness is. ”

When the movie "Luk Fook Inn" was released, Avid was still alive. She once disagreed with some details in the film. For example, she was born short in stature, while the heroine in the movie is relatively tall. For example, she also disagrees with some details in the heroine's love scene in the film.

The film "Luk Fook Inn" reveals to the world, especially the Chinese community, the immortal experience of Avid and those missionaries like her in his early years in China.

The movie "Luk Fook Inn" with Chinese subtitles uploaded here is taken from the Internet. Chinese translation is better than the other versions I've seen. Blessed".
